The Burntwood Wakes has been given a boost after a local organisation backed changes to the event.
The Burntwood Business Community group supported Burntwood Town Council’s proposal for local groups to play a bigger part in planning the Wakes.
The local authority had already agreed to put £20,000 of funding forward and Burntwood Business Community has now added a further £5,000 to the pot.
David Whitehouse, chairman of the group, said: “We are really keen to help promote the town and local business.
“We think a series of events next summer under the Burntwood Wakes Festival Banner would be a brilliant way of bringing people to our town to see what’s on offer and give our high streets a boost.”
Interested bidders will need to complete a tender form by December 12.
Cllr Steve Taylor, Chairman of the Town Council’s Wakes Committee, said: “We are willing to consider a range of ideas. Events could be things like a bake off, a comedy night, a parade, sporting or musical events.
“We are asking the local community to get really involved to make next year a really memorable Burntwood Wakes.”
Interested groups can contact Steve Lightfoot from Burntwood Town Council to help plan their ideas by calling 01543 677166 or emailing stevelightf@gmail.com.
