PC Kirsty Hodgkiss said: “The victim, a 40-year-old man from Lichfield, secured his black mountain bike to the cycle racks at the station at about 6.45am on September 19.

“When he returned to collect it the following day, he discovered his bicycle and lock were missing from the racks.

“We have undertaken extensive enquiries into this theft already, including speaking to witnesses, circulating this image on police systems and reviewing CCTV which shows the cycle being taken at about 11.15pm on September 19.

“I am now appealing to members of the public to come forward if they recognise the man pictured as we believe he can assist our enquiries.”

Officers would also like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the theft, or who may have been offered the bike for sale.

PC Hodgkiss added: “Unfortunately, bicycles remain a desirable target for many thieves at train stations. However, British Transport Police is cracking down on this type of crime and we have a dedicated team of officers specifically focused on tackling this issue.

“Thieves should also be aware that most cycle racks are covered by CCTV so it’s only a matter of time before we track you down.

“We are also working closely with cycle and second-hand shops in the area and are monitoring online auction and advertising sites to make it more difficult for thieves to sell on stolen property.”

Anyone with information should call British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting incident reference B7/WWA of 16/10/13. Alternatively the independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
