The traditional Apple Day celebrations are returning to Whittington and Fisherwick.
The event on Saturday (October 19) will take place at the monthly produce market in the Bell Inn Car Park.
Fisherwick is the home of Britain’s favourite cra
b apple, the John Downie, which will be on sale along with lots of other apple goodies.
There will also be apple-themed food, drink, and children’s activities on offer, together with a range of other foodstuff.
Caro Allen, chair of Whittington and Fisherwick Environment Group (WFEG), said: “Apple Day was started in 1990 and has spread like wildfire across Britain.
“Our link with the John Downie crab apple means that the idea is very special to us in Whittington and Fisherwick but we would be delighted for people from Lichfield and surrounding towns and villages to come and help us celebrate our favourite British fruit.”
Children will be able to take part in plenty of activities, including tasting different varieties. The Hotpots will also be providing fiddle music and clog dancing.
WFEG will also make use of their new apple juicing kit which has been purchased with the help of a grant from County Councillor Alan White’s Local Community Fund.
Visitors are invited to bring their apples along for juicing and clean plastic bottles or milk cartons to take away the results.
Cllr White added: “I am really pleased to be supporting this super community event through my County Council Community Fund.
“The juicing is a great way for people to make use of surplus apples which would otherwise go to waste and to take home some delicious juice.
“I hope that lots of folk from Whittington and surrounding areas will come and make good use of this opportunity.”
