A charity is bidding for £25,000 of funding to help create a new specialist bereavement centre in memory of a Fradley schoolgirl.
Violets in Bloom was set up following the death of Violet Mornington.
The five-year-old had just finished her first year at St Stephen’s School in Fradley in 2013 when she lost her life to a rare blood disorder.
Her parents Kerry and Ivan have already reached their funding target for a children’s memorial garden in the grounds of Fradley and District Crematorium and are now hoping to continue Violet’s legacy with a new project.
A spokesperson for Violets in Bloom said: “The centre will be called Violet House and will service Staffordshire and the surrounding areas.
“We hope it will provide a haven for anyone who has lost a child, including siblings.”
The plan would see Violet House host professional counsellors, therapy sessions, support groups and space for reflection.
“In Staffordshire alone there are more than 70 child deaths every year, so many families are facing this heartbreaking journey without simple but adequate support.
“The charity aims to bridge the gap and help these families.
“Violet House will also open its doors to children who are bereaved of a parent and offer the same level of support to them too.”
The charity is one of a number of projects bidding for a slice of the Aviva Community Fund.
Violet House has already secured more than 2,500 votes backing its bid, but now the charity wants more people to sign up and show their support.
