Chasetown FC returned from their trip to Stocksbridge Park Steels empty handed.
In one of the few fixtures in the division to survive the rain, the battle for the play-offs was tight in the opening few minutes.
Steels striker Joe Lumsden saw a long range effort blocked by defender Jon Haynes and then Chasetown leading scorer Paul Sullivan headed narrowly over the bar from a Jed Davies corner.
The home side took the lead on the half hour. When Steels keeper David Reay saved from George Washbourne, Stocksbridge opened up The Scholars with a long ball and Lumsden drove the ball into the opposite corner beyond John Bateman.
Chasetown went close to an equaliser ten minutes after the break. Substitute Nick Turton teed up Sullivan who in turn fed Washbourne, but Reay spread himself to block at his near post.
Harrison Biggins struck the crossbar with a free kick midway through the half with Bateman beaten.
Stocksbridge doubled their lead ten minutes from time when a through ball from midfield reached Scott Ruthven who got their before Bateman to prod the ball beyond the keeper which trickled into the net.
