CHASETOWN lifted the Walsall Senior Cup after a dramatic penalty shootout in the final against Stafford Rangers.
The Scholars looked to be heading for victory until a leveller deep into injury time.
But Carl Dickinson’s men secured the trophy after a tense shootout.
Chasetown began brightly with Luke Yates darting into the box, but his shot was saved.
Stafford went close after ten minutes when Dan Cockerline’s effort was kept out on the line by keeper Curtis Pond.
The Scholars broke the deadlock on 17 minutes when George Cater’s effort found the net.
But former Chasetown man Joe Thompson levelled things up on 38 minutes to send the two sides into the break at 1-1.
The opening exchanges of the second half were a more cagey affair than the first, with little in the way of chances until just after the hour mark when Jack Langston tried to steer a cross home but Scott Moloney was on hand to save.
Nathan Cameron was next to go close for the Scholars, but his effort was blocked.
Moloney was again on hand to deny Langston with a good save 15 minutes from time.
Chasetown got themselves back in front 13 minutes from time when Joe Dunne’s header struck the bar but went in off the unfortunate Stafford keeper.
It looked as though the cup had been secured until deep into injury time when Ben O’Hanlon found the next to make it 2-2.
The shootout saw Chasetown get off to the worst possible start as Yates missed the opening kick.
Both sides finished their next spot kicks until Moloney had the chance to wrap things up but was unable to find the net.
Mitch Clarke stepped up to score the first sudden death kick for the Scholars and made no mistake to put the pressure on Stafford’s Ash Fallon who was unable to convert.
