Children suffering illness because of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster have been VIPs at a theme park near Lichfield.
The youngsters from Belarus visited Drayton Manor Theme Park as part of a month-long trip organised by the Chernobyl Children’s Life Line charity.
It is the 18th year that Drayton Manor has invited the children who make the trip as part of a recuperative break to help boost their immune system.
Julie Goody, chairman of Birmingham Link, which is part of the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline, said:
“I would like to thank all the staff at Drayton Manor Theme Park for their support over the years. Very often, the children we bring to the UK have never visited a theme park before, so it’s immensely heart-warming to see their joyous reaction when they first walk through the gates and see all the rides and attractions.”
Colin Bryan, managing director of Drayton Manor Theme Park, added:
“Drayton Manor has a long and proud history of supporting various charities and good causes. We were very happy to welcome this group of youngsters from Belarus, and look forward to welcoming other groups for many years to come.”
