The chairman of Lichfield District Council has hosted a behind-the-scenes tour of Drayton Manor for civic leaders from across the Midlands.
The group – which included the lord mayors of Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent – were given the chance to explore the popular tourist attraction before being given a talk by managing director Colin Bryan.
Councillor David Smith, Chairman of Lichfield District Council, said: “Drayton Manor Theme Park is such an important part of the district’s tourism offer and so this civic reception was a fantastic opportunity to find out more about this exciting venue.
“We heard about how the park began life almost 65 years ago, what it includes now, and future developments.
“I would like to thank Colin Bryan and his team for such an interesting talk and enjoyable tour, which included a ride on a traditional carousel.”
The theme park, which was founded by George Bryan OBE and his wife Vera Bryan, is set in 280 acres of lakes and parkland, and was once the home of Sir Robert Peel.
Mr Bryan said: “It is an honour to have such locally respected people come to the park and discuss what this beautiful area has to offer.
“Tourism is a crucial part of the local economy and I’m passionate about attracting as many people as possible to our fabulous region.”
