Work has started on the Beacon Park development this week.

When completed, the skatepark will feature a street-style section and a transition zone featuring bowls, hips and spines.

Grassy mounds and trees are also being introduced to lessen the visual impact of the new facility.

Councillor Val Richards said: “It is great to see work starting on our new skatepark.

“Having teamed up with a leading skatepark designer to draw up the plans, as well as involving local skaters along the way, we’re confident that we will create a facility that is both challenging and fun.

“We look forward to launching the skatepark next year and hope it will give all our local skaters of all ages somewhere they can enjoy using for many years to come.”
