The search is underway to find youngsters who have what it takes to be Lichfield’s junior town crier.

Taking place as part of the Lichfield Heritage Weekend, the contest will see under 16s ring the bell and shout out to the city’s residents.

Interested youngsters must register at the information tent on Market Square before 1.45pm on September 17, with the competition taking place from 2pm to 2.30pm.

A prize will be awarded to the best shout.

Would-be town criers need to use the following template and fill in the gaps with their best ideas:

“OYEZ, OYEZ, OYEZ. Citizens of Lichfield, my name is ……….. and I am …… years old. The thing I like best about Lichfield is ………

“GOD SAVE THE QUEEN AND THE LORDS OF THIS MANOR”
