A COUNCILLOR has raised "serious concerns" over proposals for a development in Burntwood.
Miller Homes is looking to build up to 350 new homes on the plot at land between Lichfield Road and Farewell Lane.
But Cllr Andrew Clissett, representative for Burntwood North at Staffordshire County Council, said he had flagged issues with highways over the proposals.
The Reform UK councillor said:
"While I understand the need for housing, my absolute priority is ensuring our local infrastructure can cope, our roads remain safe and our green spaces are protected.
"Having reviewed the plans and the proposed access maps, I have formally raised several serious concerns with Staffordshire County Council planners and highways officers.
"The masterplan proposes a major new vehicular access point directly onto Lichfield Road. Creating a primary access point for a large housing estate on a 50mph road raises massive safety red flags.
"There is a very real question mark over whether this proposed junction can even meet the strict new design and building codes regarding visibility and safety splays."
Cllr Clissett added that residents could face "significant congestion" if the current plans come to fruition.
He also warned of the impact on the green belt:
"Miller Homes is trying to justify this development by claiming the site is utilising 'grey belt' land. I fundamentally challenge this.
"This is green belt land. It serves a crucial purpose in maintaining the natural boundaries and the settlement edge of Burntwood, and it should remain protected from open-countryside sprawl."
