The Burntwood in Bloom competition has been axed for 2018.

Burntwood Town Council has blamed “difficult economic times” for the decision.

The council still hopes to bring the competition back in 2019, but with an expected £19,000 drop in the figure received from Lichfield District Council through the Parish Council Local Council Tax Support Grant, the Burntwood in Bloom committee admitted that tough decisions needed to be made.

In 2017 just 38 entries were received for the competition.

The council will discuss the long-term future of the contest at a meeting on March 5.
