Cllr David Leytham will be the link between facilities such as the Defence Medical Services at Whittington and local residents.

He said it was important for the area to retain its military heritage.

“I’m honoured to take on the role and feel very privileged to be working with them,” he said.

“There’s already a very strong link between the area and the military with things like the Staffordshire Regiment being formed in Lichfield.

“I’ll be looking to be the link between people like the Defence Medical Services and the community.

“They have a desire to become more community-minded, as they showed with the field gun team in the Bower parade, and that’s our desire at Lichfield District Council too.”

The link was previously maintained by Cllr Bernard Derrick before his retirement ahead of the local elections in May.
