DRIVERS are being reminded to check their vehicles as winter temperatures sweep in.
Staffordshire County Council has also urged motorists to “drive to the conditions” as gritting crews continue to cover local routes.
Freezing temperatures and potential snow showers have been forecast, and Cllr Patrick Allen, cabinet support member for highways north at the council, said motorists should make sure they’re prepared for journeys if the weather does deteriorate.
“Our gritting crews are well prepared for the wintery weather, but we’re reminding drivers that they have an important role to play as well.
“People should make sure their vehicles are in a safe condition. Simple checks of tyres, lights and wipers to make sure they are working properly can make a big difference.
“Before setting out, always check the latest weather forecast, plan your journey and take a warm coat, water and essential supplies in case of emergencies.
“Being prepared, slowing down and taking extra care means we can all get through the winter safely.”
