THE latest phase of a roll-out of "vital" electrical safety checks is being carried out at council homes in Tamworth.

Delivered in partnership with GOOM Electrical Limited, the Tamworth Borough Council scheme is part of inspections carried out every five years.

The free checks of wiring, sockets and electrical units are free for council tenants, with any repairs needed also being arranged.

Cllr Ben Clarke, portfolio holder for housing, homelessness and planning, said:

"These electrical safety checks are vital to help keep the homes of our tenants safe and form an essential part of our ongoing work to maintain council homes to a high standard.

"When tenants are contacted to arrange an appointment, I would encourage them to respond as soon as possible and make sure access can be provided.

These checks are free and play an important role in reducing the risk of electrical fires and helping residents to feel safe and secure in their homes."
