THE refurbishment of Tamworth Library has been recognised in a building awards programme.
The project won the Best Public or Community Building category at the Local Authority Building Control Awards 2026 for the West Midlands region.
The Staffordshire County Council project was delivered by Fords of Blythe Bridge and The Design Concept, helping modernise the library and create a more flexible space for community use.
Cllr Hayley Coles, cabinet member for communities and culture at Staffordshire County Council, said:
"It’s great to see Tamworth Library recognised with this award. It reflects the dedication, skill and commitment of everyone involved in the refurbishment.
"This recognition acknowledges the work undertaken to modernise the library and to make sure it remains a valuable community facility for residents.
"Libraries continue to play an important role in supporting reading, learning, and providing access to services.
"Our focus now is on encouraging more residents, local groups and people who may not currently use the library to discover the wide range of free books, free digital resources and services available.
"We also want to make greater use of the meeting spaces available for community groups and businesses, helping the library play an even stronger role at the heart of the community.
"We'd like to congratulate everyone involved and wish the team every success in the national finals."
As a regional winner, the Tamworth Library project will now go forward to the national Local Authority Building Control Awards, where it will compete against the country's public building projects.
