A crackdown on under-age drinkers using fake ID in Lichfield is being launched.
The month-long operation is being organised by police, local pubs and bars and Trading Standards and will start tomorrow (September 2).
Chair of Lichfield PubWatch, Paul Maddox, said:
“Individuals using fake identification to gain entry to venues don’t realise the potential consequences not only to the licensees and the staff who work within the venues but also to themselves. Many don’t realise they are committing a criminal offence even trying to gain entry with a fake or altered ID or indeed that belonging to someone else.
“If anyone tries to gain entry using a false passport, or one belonging to someone else, we keep the passport and send it to the passport office.”
Insp Jed White, Commander of Lichfield District local policing team, added:
“This is a good example of agencies and partners working together to tackle the consequences that arise from people who use fake ID. The initiative is aimed at protecting and raising awareness. We will be taking positive action against those found to be flouting the law.”
