A dog missing for five years has been reunited with her owners after being found near Lichfield.
Ganni – an eight year-old Jack Russell cross – went missing when she was taken on holiday with her family to Devon in 2004, but has somehow reappeared in Hopwas.
But because Ganni was microchipped, Lichfield District Council’s dog warden was able to trace her owners who live in Somerset.
Her owner Andrew said:
“When I picked up the phone, the last thing I expected was that Ganni had been found after all these years. We have missed her dreadfully, and have now introduced her to the brand new members of the family – as we’ve had three children in the last five years!
“Ganni went missing when we were on holiday in Devon. She escaped over the garden wall, and we understand that she might have been stolen by someone from Staffordshire. It’s lovely to have our dog back and she’s settled into family life well.”
Eddie Pearson, Lichfield District Council’s dog warden, added:
“Reuniting dogs with their families is the best part of my job, but this is the first time I’ve reunited one that has been missing for so many years. This clearly shows the benefit of having your dog micro chipped, without which we would never have been able to trace Ganni’s’ owners. I am sure she is happy to be home after such a long adventure.”
