Efforts to restore local canals have been boosted by a four-figure donation.

The Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust (LCHRT) was nominated by the Allan Pearson, the outgoing chairman of Cannock Chase Council, as one of his charities during his year in office.

LCHRT chairman Brian Kingshott accepted a cheque for £1117.60 at a meeting of the local authority.

A spokesman said: “The Trust hopes to devote this money to the work on the Hatherton Canal.”
