Drivers warned to take extra care as severe weather sweeps in

Drivers across Lichfield and Burntwood are being advised to take extra care after a severe weather warning was issued.

Rain and heavy winds are expected to sweep across the country tonight (October 27).

And Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s head of risk reduction Glynn Luznyj said they were geared up for an increased number of calls.

“Unfortunately, wet conditions may result in an increase in road traffic collisions, many of which could be avoided if people ensure that they check their vehicles regularly and they drive with the extra care required,” he said.

“There is also a higher risk of debris such as fallen tree branches and even trees coming down in high winds and these can pose an additional danger on roads.

“I would urge drivers to be vigilant when driving in stormy weather and also to check the condition of their vehicle’s tyres, allowing extra time for journeys so that they are not in a rush.”
