THE finalists who will compete at Lichfield Cathedral for the 2026 Midlands Choir of the Year have been confirmed.
The six groups will battle it out for the crown in a performance on 12th July as part of the Lichfield Festival.
Those in the running are Derby’s Cantare, Friday Voices from Burton-on-Trent, RWT Singers from Wolverhampton, Stoke-on-Trent’s Six Town Sound, the Staffordshire Show Choir and Lichfield’s very own Inspire Choir.
They reached the final after being whittled down to 11 who took part in a semi-final at The Hub at St Mary’s.
Organiser and Lichfield Festival director Damian Thantrey said:
“Each time we hear our choirs live, we’re blown away by their commitment and the incredibly high level of their musicality and stagecraft.
“We were treated to 11 incredible performances and selecting a final six was the most difficult it has ever been given the technical accomplishment, emotional intensity and sheer joy each group brought to the stage.”
As well as a trophy, the winners receive a cash prize of £1,000 and an invitation to sing at the following year’s Lichfield Festival.
An additional £500 prize is awarded by the audience to the choir of their choice.
The final will also see reigning champions MaleVox perform.
