Cold callers are set to be given the cold shoulder as Lichfield’s first ban them is introduced.
The No Cold Calling Zone has been set up in David Garrick Gardens, a sheltered house scheme for the elderly, and will safeguard residents from rogue traders and pressure-selling.
Firms or individuals who breach the rules will be investigated by police and trading standards.
PCSO Elaine Sneyd said: “The No Cold Calling Zone is a further measure to protect elderly and vulnerable residents from doorstep criminals. It is part of the wider Safe Haven scheme which seeks to safeguard elderly and vulnerable people across the district.”
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for communities Pat Corfield added: “We always urge people to be wary of cold callers and so welcome this initiative as it will help residents to feel more secure in their own homes – something everyone should have the right to.
“Creating a zone where cold callers cannot operate sets out a clear policy to companies which might trade in this way that there are limits. We will take breaches seriously and follow them up.
“We also want criminals who use cold calling as a technique to trick people to know that we will be on to them straight away if they attempt anything in this area.
“Working with our police colleagues, we continue to make Staffordshire a safer place to live.”
