THE founder of a Burntwood organisation is urging people with chronic illness and disabilities to share their views in a national consultation.

The Timms Review is a major Government review looking at the benefits system, including Personal Independence Payment.

The founder of Burntwood Spoonies Connect – an organisation supporting people with chronic illness – said it was important people made their voices heard before the deadline on 28th May.

Sha, who lives with Functional Neurological Disorder, myalgic encephalomyelitis and fibromyalgia, added:

“The people running this review are asking for our experiences. That’s rare – and it won’t last long.

“I wish I could still be working in a career I loved. However, my health changed so quickly. But this is my reality now and like many people, I depend on benefits to get by.

“The best thing I can do now is make sure everyone in my situation knows there is still time to take part.

“The people making decisions about our lives need to truly understand what our lives are like.

“You do not need to be an expert or share your name – just tell them what your life is really like. Your story counts as evidence.

“Speak up, not just for yourself, but for all of us who rely on benefits through no fault of our own, just to live and survive.”

People can submit views using a short online form with four questions at gov.uk, under Timms Review Call for Evidence.

They can also mail timmsreview.callforevidence@dwp.gov.uk to ask for another format, including audio.

The consultation will close at 11:59pm on 28th May.
