EXCLUSIVE: The girlfriend of Lichfield singer Shaun Smith has backed him to win Britain’s Got Talent – but warned him not to forget their anniversary!

Sixteen-year-old Emily Abbotts has seen her boyfriend shoot to fame after wowing the judges on the TV talent show with his rendition of Bill Withers’ song Ain’t No Sunshine.

Described as a “good-looking Mick Hucknall” by Simon Cowell, Shaun has been installed as second favourite to win the show with the bookies.

And girlfriend Emily believes he has what it takes to win Britain’s Got Talent after being such a hit with the judges. She told The Lichfield Blog:

“I was in the audience when he auditioned and I was so nervous for him. When he walked out in front of the judges I didn’t know what to do, it was all just a blur! When I watched it back on TV the other week though, I was able to watch it and take it all in – I was so proud of him that I couldn’t stop crying.

“Shaun has a really good chance at winning the show this year, his voice is different and he’s really good looking so all the girls will vote for him.”

And it’s all those female fans that have seen Emily become the envy of women up and down the country.

But despite stories in the national media claiming she was worried about the female attention Shaun would get, the Lichfield teenager says she’s happy to be the lucky one.

She explained:

“Before the show aired I was quite worried that all the attention would be too much to handle, but I’ve got used to it all now. I find it quite amusing actually, and I love the fact that I’m the girl who gets all his cuddles and kisses!”

Shaun and Emily will celebrate their first anniversary together in June and although the 17-year-old singer’s schedule is likely to be busy if, as expected, Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden select him on Saturday as one of the acts to make the live semi-finals, Emily has reminded her man to remember their special day. She joked:

“It’s our year anniversary in June so he’d better have something nice planned for me!”
