A golfer has been airlifted to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest in Lichfield.
The man collapsed on the fairway at Lichfield Golf and Country Club yesterday morning (January 31).
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “On arrival at the club crews found a man in cardiac arrest being given excellent CPR by fellow golfers with the club’s defibrillator ready for action.
“Crews immediately took over resuscitation attempts, continuing heart massage and delivering a shock using a defibrillator. Fortunately, the shock successfully restarted the man’s heart.
“The man was quickly transferred to the awaiting air ambulance and airlifted to New Cross Hospital whilst vital treatment to help maintain his respiratory and cardiac output continued en route.
“The man’s condition upon arrival at hospital was said to be critical but stable.”
Ambulance workers also praised the efforts of other players in trying to save his life.
“When someone suffers a cardiac arrest, every minute counts and the sooner CPR is started the better the chances of survival,” the spokeswoman added.
“The effective CPR carried out on the fairway by bystanders has ultimately helped to save the man’s life.”
