Two new recruits have joined the team at St Giles Hospice.

Recent graduates Aaron Coleman and Jessica Taylor, both 22, have joined the Whittington-based hospice on a full-time basis after completing placements there during their studies.

“I want to do something different with my working life and St Giles offers that possibility,” said Aaron, who works in the fundraising department. “When my placement year ended, I really wanted to carry on at the hospice, so I started volunteering a couple of times a week. Then, when I saw a position advertised for the fundraising team, I went for it.”

Jessica first joined the hospice on a work placement in 2010 and was amazed by the amount of experience she was able to gain in the human resources field.

“Working in HR really appealed to me, so I was delighted to learn so much about the employment area during my work placement,” she said. “If I had a problem, someone in the team would take time to show me exactly how to resolve the issue, and as my abilities grew, I was rewarded with greater responsibility.

“By the end of the placement, I had been able to get involved with all aspects of HR, which was more than I could have wished for at many other organisations.

“Working at St Giles impressed me so much that I stayed on as a volunteer during my final year at university.”

Peter Holliday, Chief Executive of St Giles Hospice, added: “We are incredibly proud to have been able to assist with Aaron and Jessica’s professional development.

“Each year we have several placements from Aston University who bring up to date thinking in their specialist fields to the hospice. Two vacancies arose for which these former placement students applied and I am delighted that their earlier experience with St Giles had equipped them to be successful in their applications.

“We are thrilled that they have both decided to return and develop their careers with us.”
