HAMMERWICH suffered their first defeat of the season as they crashed to an eight-wicket loss at Wolverhampton 2nds.
The visitors, who went into the game with a perfect record in the South Staffordshire County League, opted to bat first after winning the toss.
But things didn’t go to plan as Imran Qadir and Ben Nevis went with just six runs on the scoreboard.
Callum Brodrick was next to follow as Hammerwich slipped to 28-3.
The visitors were struggling to get a foothold in the innings as the wickets kept tumbling to leave them on 60-7.
Ryan Elliott and Todd Reeves tried to offer some late resistance with knocks of 22 and 11, but Hammerwich could only reach 99 before being skittled out.
Any hopes of a comeback with the ball in hand were soon dashed as Wolverhampton’s openers made a solid start. Oisin Singh reached 48 before being caught by Andy Malkin off the bowling of Brodrick to make a first breakthrough with the score on 73.
John Jennings trapped Simon Lycett lbw after scoring two, but it was to be as good as it got for Hammerwich as opener Oliver Brown and Max Walker saw the home side past the target with ease.
