PEOPLE grabbing last minute Christmas bargains are being reminded to add medicines to their shopping list.
The NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board (ICB) is urging people to make sure they are prepared to keep well over the festive period.
With flu season in full swing, residents are reminded to ensure they have the likes of paracetamol, ibuprofen, cough medicine and antacids.
Dr Rachel Gallyot, GP and interim medical director at the ICB, said:
“Having a well-stocked medicines cabinet means that you can begin treating common symptoms as soon as they appear, which can make a real difference to how quickly you start to feel better.
“Simple items like pain relief, cold and flu remedies, rehydration salts and basic first-aid supplies can help you manage many minor illnesses safely at home.
“Always make sure you read the labels and follow the instructions carefully, especially when giving medicines to children or if you take regular medication yourself.
“And if you’re ever unsure about what you need or how to use it, your local pharmacist is an excellent source of advice. They’re highly trained clinical professionals who can guide you to the right treatment and help you decide when you might need further medical support.”
