Potholes across Lichfield and Burntwood brought on by the recent cold weather are being targeted as part of major repair programme.
The recent cold snap has led to many potholes being created on the region’s roads. Water seeping into cracks has frozen and degraded road surfaces, leading to more problems.
But with the worst of the weather behind us, Staffordshire Highways crews have begun repairing potholes that are deemed to be a priority, with less serious ones tackled in the coming weeks.
Cabinet member for highways Mike Maryon said:
“The freezing conditions will have taken their toll on our road surfaces. Our highways teams are doing all they can to fix potholes but will have to prioritise. I’d ask people to be patient as this is a big job, but to ensure they report problems to our highways hotline.
“Last year we pledged to plough an extra £30 million into maintaining the road network over the next three years. Much of this investment will be targeted on improving road conditions to prevent potholes forming in the first place.”
