People from Lichfield and Burntwood visiting patients at a local hospital could be set to benefit from continued free parking after a trial scheme proved a success.
Good Hope Hospital introduced the trial between 6pm and 9pm on weekdays last month and have seen 10 per cent more visitors since it was introduced.
Mike Hammond, chairman of the Good Hope Patient and Carer Advisory Group, said:
“Our group is made up of patients or carers who have used the services of the Trust, and representatives from Trust Staff. Our main objective is to identify areas of concern and need for improvement in those services being delivered to patients. Some of the ongoing complaints about car parking at Good Hope, discussed by the group, have been the overflow car parking in the side roads, the charges, and the lack of spaces.
“As someone who has had to visit the Hospital during the day and in the evening, I must agree that it is currently much better than it used to be. I am supportive of the scheme and am pleased to see the Hospital making efforts to improve the parking situation. Time will tell.”
Paul Quinsey, head of technical services for Good Hope Hospital, added:
“We would urge visitors who are able to visit their loved ones later on in the day to try to do so, not only for the financial benefit but also to help ease congestion at the Hospital and the other problems associated with this.”
The scheme officially runs until May 13, although hospital bosses could keep the scheme running if it is successful.
