Lichfield District Council’s coffers could be boosted by more than £40,000 thanks to a rise in people using the city’s car parks.
At a meeting last night (December 3), the local authority’s Cabinet heard how parking revenues had risen by nine per cent in the second quarter.come the end of the financial year in March 2014.
A report to the council claimed the opening of the new Debenhams store in the city had helped to attract more figures.
Projections suggest the increase could help raise an extra £40,640 by the end of the financial year in March 2014.
The car parking boost was part of a number of figures expected to see the council be £160,000 better than approved budget.
Other boosts to the local authority’s coffers included a reduction in the use of casual employeers and an increase in the recovery of council tax benefit overpayments.
However, the council does face an estimated £15,000 bill for the repair of a lift at the Lichfield Garrick.
“The council’s responsibility as landlord of the Garrick Theatre means it has an obligation to repair the lift,” the report said.
“The lift is the original one installed some 37 years ago when the Civic Hall was built. It was not replaced as part of the Garrick Theatre construction in 2003.
“Recent technical failures mean an overhaul is required in this financial year.”
