Work is set to begin across Lichfield to keep Japanese Knotweed under control.
The plant is fast growing and can spread quickly to cover wide areas, killing off other plants. There is also a threat from the fact it can grow through concrete and weaken foundations of buildings.
The work at Muckley Corner, Gentleshaw Common, Pipehill Common and Wharf Lane is being carried out by Lichfield District Council.
Councillor Neil Roberts, Cabinet Member for Development Services, said:
“Because Japanese Knotweed is hard to keep under control, it is important that we continue to tackle it when it appears. As we will be using pesticides to kill off this invasive plant, we will be putting up signs to warn visitors that they should keep off the areas that have been sprayed, for at least 24 hours.”
