Ken Humphreys has been confirmed as the new chairman of Lichfield District Council.
He was sworn in at the local authority’s annual meeting last night. Cllr David Leytham will take on the role of vice chairman.
The role will see Cllr Humphreys representing the council at a wide range of functions across the district and region, including royal visits and charity events.
“My grandfather, Hubert Humphreys, was the Lord Mayor of Birmingham in 1950, so I am really proud to be following in his footsteps and taking on such a prestigious role,” he said.
“With the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and The Olympic Torch Relay travelling through the district, 2012 is set to be an exciting year. I am looking forward to meeting people from across the district and region, and I will do my best to represent the council over the coming year.
“The charities I will be raising money for are Midlands Air Ambulance and the We Love Lichfield Fund.”
