A knitting bag owned by Queen Victoria has been sold in Lichfield.

The purple, velvet-lined bag has been sold to a collector in Spain for £800 at Hansons Auctioneers, dashing hopes the piece would stay in the UK.

It is believed that Queen Victoria – a keen knitter – gave the bag as a gift to her doctor Sir James Reid.
