Time is running out for budding poets in Lichfield and Burntwood to enter a county-wide contest.
Staffordshire County Council is looking to recruit a new Young Poet Laureate for the coming year.
But 14 to 18-year-olds only have until July 6 to get their entries in.
County Councillor Mike Lawrence said: “Staffordshire has a well-deserved reputation as a creative county and I’d like to see as many youngsters as possible have a go at this great competition.
“The winning writer is in for a very exciting year and I urge any youngsters with a creative streak to get their poems in before the deadline closes.”
Entrants are asked to submit two poems – the first on why Staffordshire is a great place to live, work and visit, with the second on a topic of their choice. Competitors also need to submit a list of ideas explaining what they would do during their time as Young Poet Laureate.
The closing date for the competition is July 6. Shortlisted applicants will be required to perform one of their poems and another poem of their choice on September 7 in Stafford.
