Lichfield City FC might not have won their Boxing Day encounter with league leaders Highgate, but their second half performance will have given them some festive cheer.
Jay Birch and Mark Rose both went close in a lively opening period, but a sustained period of pressure almost saw the visitors take the lead when an effort clipped the bar.
The pressure eventually told as Highgate opened the scoring on 38 minutes through James Loney.
The second half saw roles reversed as Lichfield continually probed the Highgate area and forced panic in the visiting backline with a goalmouth scramble which was ultimately cleared from danger.
The result means City end the year in 11th place in the Midland Football League Division One. They kick-off 2015 with a 3pm visit from Bolehall Swifts on New Year’s Day.
