Villagers around Lichfield and Burntwood will be keeping their fingers crossed as judging gets underway for the Best Kept Village Competition.
Entries have been received from across the area with 51 villages bidding for the title when judging begins on May 1.
John Perry MBE, Chairman of the Best Kept Village Working Group, which organises the competition on behalf of the Community Council of Staffordshire, said:
“You will see plenty of activity over the next few weeks in the villages that have entered this year. There will be litter picking teams busy keeping on top of potential problems, the groups who maintain churchyards and keep war memorials up to scratch will be hard at it and the village organisers will be making sure that the grass gets cut and notice boards are kept neat and tidy.
“But for many village organisers the philosophy of maintaining their village environment to as high a standard as possible continues throughout the year. They always aim to keep their areas in great shape.”
