Lichfield Cathedral’s new lighting system will be unveiled this evening.
The historic building carried out the work after being awarded money from the Government’s First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund.
Lichfield received the largest of the grants – £800,000 – to fund the rewiring of the building and improvements to its lighting.
A spokesperson said: “The fund was set up to support vital repairs to some of England’s most important historic buildings.
“Lichfield Cathedral was facing the possibility of closure without the essential work.”
The new lighting will be used for the first time after Evensong at 6.20pm today (March 17).
