Lichfield Cathedral’s Canon Pete Wilcox has been confirmed as the new Dean of Liverpool.
He has been the Canon Residentiary of Lichfield Cathedral since 2006 and he will be installed in Liverpool Cathedral in September.
“The past five years have been exceptionally rewarding,” he said. “I do thank God for calling me to serve on the staff of Lichfield Cathedral, and before that as a parish priest in this Diocese.
“It has been wonderful to work with such fine clergy and lay colleagues, such highly able staff and volunteers, and such generous partners in the local authority and beyond in the delivery of the Cathedral’s education and outreach work.
“There have been many highlights – but 2011 will always stand out for the work we did together in relation to the King James’ Bible anniversary and the Staffordshire Hoard on Tour.
The Very Revd Adrian Dorber, Dean of Lichfield, added: “Although Lichfield Cathedral will be sad to lose Pete Wilcox as Canon Chancellor, the challenge of becoming the next Dean of Liverpool looks like an excellent match for his temperament, experience and theological communication skills.
“Pete has brought enthusiasm and great loyalty to cathedral life. He sees clearly how well-placed Cathedrals are in furthering Christian mission and dialogue with our culture and the role they can play in deepening and sustaining Diocesan life.
“He has been a really important member of the cathedral team and we’re going to miss his gift for friendship, clear thinking and getting things done.
“He’ll be enjoying a brief Dean’s apprenticeship as Acting Dean of Lichfield whilst I am on study leave, but I know Lichfield will want to give him the most tremendous send-off when they leave this summer.”
