Hundreds turned out for a charity Christmas fayre in Lichfield – including the city’s MP.
Michael Fabricant joined the crowds for the event at Saxon Hill School, which raised money for the Anthony Nolan Trust, Live Life & Give Life and Saxon Hill Community Café.
More than £2,700 was raised from the event thanks to attractions including festive stalls, a chance to meet Santa and real reindeer.
The event was organised by two Lichfield women Margret Candlish, a teacher at Saxon Hill School, and her close friend Rachel Prosser.
Rachel, who was diagnosed with leukaemia 11 years ago and is now waiting for a lung transplant, was inspired to organise the event to raised awareness as well as money.
“I want to let everyone know about organ donation and the Anthony Nolan Trust as Anthony Nolan gave me a second chance at life now I want my third chance through organ donation,”she explained.
“My aim is to get as many people as possible signed up to the register as there are 10,000 people currently waiting for a transplant.”
Over 300 people attended the event including Mr Fabricant and Lichfield District Council chairman Bernard Derrick.
“The initiative of these girls is inspiring,” said Mr Fabricant. “I thoroughly support all these causes and look forward to next year’s event!”
