A close first half saw few chances, but the visitors took the leader after a far post header from centre back Todd Perry.

The goal seemed to kickstart Stafford’s evening and they carved out a number of good chances, only to be denied by Craig Johnson in the Lichfield goal as he ensured his side went in to the half-time break with a one-goal advantage.

But City’s resistance was finally broken when a smart shot from the edge of the box pulled Town level after 55 minutes.

Lichfield battled back and restored their lead when Harry Reece netted.

Stafford had a late chance to equalise once more but saw the ball bounce back off the inside of the post in the dying moments.
