Lichfield City progressed to the quarter final of the Midland Football League Cup with a narrow win over Wolverhampton Casuals.
A second half strike from Liam Kirton was enough to seal the victory for Ivor Green’s men.
City started brightly and saw Kyle Baxter send one just over the bar.
But Casuals thought they’d broken the deadlock after finding the net, only for the assistant referee’s flag to deny them.
The visitors were finding their feet and forced Lichfield keeper James Beeson into a save as well as firing narrowly over.
Joe Haines and Kirton both sent efforts at Casuals keeper Jo Seb Osment’s goal before half-time.
Kirton forced another save from Osment after the turnaround, before going one closer just after the hour mark as he broke the deadlock when Lewi Burnside’s cross was tapped back into the middle by Luke Childs for Kirton to smash home from close range.
Casuals sent a header over the bar as they went in search of a leveller before going even closer when Beeson denied them after a one-on-one save and Burnside cleared off the line.
A late chance saw the visitors head over from a free-kick as Lichfield’s back line held firm to see out the win.
