LICHFIELD City’s manager has stepped down after six years in charge.
Ivor Green met with club officials this week to inform them of his decision.
His assistant Wayne Chapman will also depart the Trade Tyre Community Stadium after the pair steered City through a successful first season at step four.
A club statement said:
“We can’t thank Ivor enough for his efforts and dedication to our football club and completely understand his reasons for stepping down.
“After taking over at step six, our growth on and off the pitch has been remarkable – promotion to step five, two JW Hunt Cup wins, numerous cup runs, club records that will take some repeating, a step five league title and leading us to an eighth place finish in our first ever season at step four.
“Ivor’s reign has been inspiring. He came as a manager but will remain a friend for life. He is a wonderful man who has written himself into the history of Lichfield City.”
Players have also paid tribute to the outgoing boss, with Dan Lomas saying he was “truly gutted”.
He added:
“Ivor and Wayne brought fun, freedom and excitement to the way we played football.
“What they have done for the club and the memories we’ve all created will never go. Thank you both.”
Defender Josh Mansell said:
“What a man and what a job he’s done – if there was a statue at Lichfield he would have deserved it.
“He’s done absolute wonders for me as a player over two spells at Lichfield. He’s one of the nicest blokes you’ll meet in football.”
Goalkeeper Brendon Bunn said:
“I’ve really enjoyed my football under Ivor and Chappo. They gave me the opportunity to win a league title and did so with a big smile from start to finish.”
