Lichfield City FC ditched out of the cup by Pershore Town

A poor first half was enough for Lichfield City FC to be dumped out of the Les James Challenge Cup by Pershore Town.

Three goals in the opening half took the wind out of City’s sails and send them packing at the first round stage.

Things could have been different had Liam Holt’s first minute effort gone over the line after it rolled agonisingly across goal after thumping the post.

But Pershore’s physical style proved problematic as Lichfield let their own gameplan slip and they were punished with a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock when ex-Worcester City forward Mark Owen fired past Craig Johnson.

And Owen doubled his and his team’s tally five minutes later from the penalty spot.

Lichfield’s task got even tougher ten minutes before the break when Garry Price had time and space to make it 3-0.

The second half was more positive for City, but they failed to grab a goal, Todd Perry going closest when he headed over from close range.
