Lichfield City FC suffered a heavy defeat on the road as they lost out against Bromsgrove Sporting.
The two promoted sides clashed in the top flight of the Midland Combination, but it was the hosts who came off the better with a 4-1 win.
Ashley Bennett was on target for City, but goals from Christopher Conway (2), James Blake and Jonathon Rogers sealed defeat for Russell Dodd’s men.
There will be another tough test for Lichfield on Tuesday night when they entertain Pelsall Villa, kick-off 7.45pm.
Meanwhile, Lichfield City’s second string also failed to find their form as they kicked off their season.
Paul Holt’s side went down 6-3 at Boldmere St Michael’s in the Challenge Trophy, a hat-trick from Joshua Houghton not enough to secure the victory.
