Lichfield City FC’s season continued to sway from the sublime to the ridiculous as they meekly surrendered their six game unbeaten league run at lowly Pershore Town.
In a wind affected game the visitors found themselves playing into the strong gusts and they struggled to get the ball out of their own half.
The home side took the lead on 20 minutes when leading scorer Mark Owen scored a 30-yard volley that left City keeper Craig Johnson with no chance.
And Pershore doubled their advantage ten minutes later as Johnson punched an Owen corner onto the back of Lichfield forward Olly Bud’s head before seeing the ball rebound back into the net.
City nearly pulled one back before half time, but Sam Buckle saw his header superbly saved by Harry Ashton in the Town goal.
Lichfield did get on the scoresheet ten minutes into the second half as Benn Minshull smashed home Todd Perry’s through ball.
But despite having all the possession in the second half, Lichfield struggled to break down a resolute Pershore defence, Danny Rock’s 30-yard drive the closest they came as once again they failed to beat a team in the bottom half of the table after beating a top half side the previous week.
