Lichfield City Leopards U11s produced a fine performance to see off the challenge of Stonydelph Boys with a 4-2 win.
The victory was the perfect boost following last week’s defeat at AFC Market Bosworth.
The Leopards had a full squad and played a defensive game for the first ten minutes. The opposition were persistent in pushing the ball forward and went 1-0 up with a cracking strike.
It seems that Lichfield have to go one down before they get the motivation to move forward. The goal spurred them into action and they got their rewards when Jack Wright netted after Patrick Wyatt’s good work.
The remainder of the first half saw a lot of dominant play by Wyatt, Wright, Tom Mills and Noah Rhodes. Both sides had chances, but strong defensive work and a refreshed Huberty Jackowski kept the ball out of the Lichfield net.
Lichfield were hit by a sucker punch though when a missed offside saw Stonydelph get their noses in front.
A pep talk by coaches Ed Lambert and Nat Brown gave the Leopards the motivation they needed for the second period.
Outstanding play by Owen Bourne, solid wing play from George Lacy and some impressive midfield work by Drew Orme frustrated Stonydelph’s attempts to add to their advantage.
Lichfield’s efforts got their reward when goals by Wright, Lacy and Bourne secured a valuable three points for the Leopards.
But while the goalscorers will steal the headlines, the Leopards defence played their part in a much improved second half performance.
