Lichfield City continued their fine form under new manager Paul Holt with an impressive victory over an in-form Castle Vale side.
A goal in each half was enough to give the visitors their third away win on the spin.
Vale were playing on the back off impressive recent results but were no match for a resurgent City side, although they were given a let off when former Lichfield man Roy Dunkley forced a fine double save from keeper Craig Johnson.
But that was as good as it got for the hosts as Holt’s men began to control proceedings.
A 12th minute corner from Ashley Evans saw Liam Holt’s header cleared off the line but the ball fell kindly to Jonathan Huckfield who bundled the ball home to put the visitors in front.
The lead should have been doubled five minutes later when Holt again had a header cleared off the line.
City made their now customary slow start to the second half, but the home side rarely threatened and could not penetrate the solid central defensive partnership of Huckfield and Todd Perry.
The visitors doubled their advantage on 65 minutes when Evans whipped in a free kick that was expertly headed home by Snape at the near post.
City had further chances to extend their lead , substitute Lee Ashmore spotting the keeper of his line but his 40 yard lob drifted just wide and Liam Holt saw his thunderous volley off an Ashmore corner go fractionally wide.
Next week sees Lichfield face a tough home test tomorrow (October 9) against title favourites Walsall Wood before they meet local rivals Shenstone in the Staffs Cup on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
