Lichfield were brought back down to earth with a bump just a week after ending their lengthy run without a win.
They faced a Syston side who clocked up 52 unanswered points inside the first 35 minutes on route to a 76-28 victory.
The Myrtle Greens made eight changes to their starting line-up – and despite the result, they were at least rewarded with a try bonus point.
Syston’s try scoring started as early as the third minute after a whole raft of recycled rucks saw them over the line.
Seven unanswered tries followed in the next half hour with young fly half Jack Green – a former Tigers academy product – at fly half adding one of them, along with an eventual eight conversions.
Lichfield had a spell of three minutes on the Syston line just before the break, trying to cross the whitewash. They stayed patient and eventually Adam Spinner strolled over for the try. He was also 100% successful with his four conversions during the afternoon.
Not surprisingly, the second half was loose with a fair degree of unstructured play from both sides. It was, if nothing else, entertaining as Lichfield scored further tries through David Mott, Ben Ashmore and Will Orme, while Syston managed four more taking their total to 12.
Past players day takes place this weekend as Lichfield host Burton on Saturday (4th March). Kick-off is at 3pm.
