A junior Lichfield football team are celebrating after winning their league.
Lichfield City Leopards U11 side secured the Tamworth League championship after a nail-biting finale against Polesworth Swifts Blues.
They knew nothing less than a victory would do with Stoneydelph hot on their heels.
But the Leopards got off to a strong start and created a number of chances without managing to find the net in the opening period.
The deadlock was finally broken when Josh Sawyer found the net, with Owen Bourne making a 4-0 win secure with an intelligent hat-trick to end the season in style and win the title by just one point.
Spokesman Heath Rhodes said: “We’ve played strong football all season and its been really close at times.
“I have to thank Nat Brown and Ed Lambert for giving the lads the confidence in themselves to win. We are all really passionate about the team and we have great parents who offer up time and energy for the lads.
“Special thanks also go to Debbie Armitage, Gemma Rhodes, and Mark Hodgeson for the little bit extra they give the team on match days.”
